Microneedling (Dermapen)

Jul 01, 2024

Micro-needling is the process of creating small channels in the skin to all for the penetration of product and encourage collagen synthesis.

What is micro-needling?

Micro-needling, also called Collagen Induction Therapy is the process of creating small channels in the skin to allow for the penetration of products and encourage collagen synthesis. The technique causes micro “wounds” in the skin and stimulates the bodies own process of healing. There are many different techniques of micro-needling including stamping, dermarollers and devices like Dermapen™.

What is unique about Dermapen™?

Dermapen™ is an automated micro-needling device that has 12 needles in a single use sterile cartridge.
These oscillate rapidly and produce around 1300 micro channels per second. The rapid oscillation of the needles and the structure of the needles improve the comfort of the patient and add to safety and control.

What issues are addressed?

Dermapen™ can be used for skin rejuvination, ageing skin, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, rosacea, telangiectasia, oily skin, acne, milia, large pores, scaring, striae (stretchmarks) and alopecia. Dermapen™ treatments can be carried out on any ares of the bodies where issues need to be addressed.

How quickly does it work and how long will it last?

Initially the treatment creates erythema and possible pinpoint bleeding. The erythema may last for up to 72 hours before subsiding. For most people the skin feels like it is mildly sunburnt. As the skin reacts and repairs itself you will start to see the effects of the treatment. Depending on what the treatment is targeting effects may continue for up to 24 months. While you may see results after just one treatment, a course of treatments is recommended to maximise results which is generally 6 treatments every 4-6 weeks.

What are the products used?

At TK Aesthetics we use the original Dermapen Medical device alongside Dermapen products. For our deluxe treatments we combine the power of Ameson MesoTech mesotherapy serums and Ameson MesoPeels with Dermapen treatments.

Are they safe?

Dermapen™ is a minimally invasive and relatively safe treatment provided the treatment is carried out by a qualified and trained practitioner and the aftercare advice is adhered to. As with any treatment there may be side effects and risks these will be fully discussed at your consultation.
